Native of La Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, Gabriel Delgado studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Cordoba and Conservatorio Superior de Granada where he graduated as Profesor Superior de Violonchelo.
Afterwards, he pursued graduate studies at Louisiana State University (USA) with professor Dennis Parker (cello) and professor Michael Butterman (conducting), where he achieved both a Master of Music in Cello Performance (1996) and a DMA (cello and conducting) (2002).
As a cellist, Delgado has worked on several profesional orchestras such as the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra (USA), Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (Spain), Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga (Spain) among others, and has performed in chamber music recitals in Spain, USA and Finland – in this latter country, within the Comenius international program.
Delgado has participated in Master Classes by cellists such as Aldo Parisot, Laszlo Varga, Andrés Díaz, and Gerhard Mantel. He has also attended chamber music courses with professors Kevork Mardirossian, Erick Friedmann and the Adubon String Quartet, and has attended conducting workshops with masters such as James Paul (USA), Arturo Tamayo (Spain), Jesús López Cobos (Spain), and Colin Metters (Germany).
In 2000, Delgado obtained a tenure position cello professor of the Junta de Andalucía (andalusian government). He has been in charge of both cello and orchestral studies at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música “Francisco Guerrero” in Sevilla, Conservatorio Profesional de Música “Ángel Barrios” in Granada and at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Victoria Eugenia” in Granada. He has conducted the orchestras of these Conservatories performing symphonic master works concerts, ballet performances, and opera scenes with great success.
He has been finalist at the following conducting competitions: “Joven Orquesta Nacional de España” (JONDE 2000), and “Orquesta Ciudad de Granada” (OCG 2005).
From 2000 to 2006 Delgado has been cello professor and conductor at the summer festival “Music and Nature” held in the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, Granada (Spain). He also performs yearly as chamber music teacher in the music festival “Centro Mediterráneo” held by the University of Granada. Likewise, he has been teaching staff for the first edition of the “Master en Interpretación Orquestal” offered by the Academy of Orchestral Studies of the Baremboim-Said Foundation, and the International Andalusian University in Sevilla.
He has conducted the Louisiana State University Symphony Orchestra (USA), the Philharmonic Orchestra of the State Theatre of Cottbus (Germany) and recently the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia (Spain).
In 2005 Gabriel Delgado was appointed musical and artistic director of the “Joven Orquesta Sinfónica de Granada” (JOSG) with which he has participated in the International Festival Eurochestries 2007 at Charente-Maritime (France), International Festival Eurochestries 2010 at Vienne (France), and the FEX-Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada (Spain) 2008, 2009 and 2010, among other events.
In 2007 Delgado was appointed musical and artistic director of the University of Granada Orchestra (OUGR) with which he has performed concerts in Granada, Jaén, Alicante, Santiago de Compostela, Ceuta and Tetouan (Morocco).
Gabriel Delgado is currently a cello and chamber music professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Victoria Eugenia” de Granada (Spain).
